Assistant Designing at Swave Studios.

◆    ◆    ◆

When I started my first project, I would develop many different ideas and try to present an idea which is different from existing competitive products. I soon realized that for my specific brief it would be better to fully understand and ideate based off competitive products and produce a functional and practical product. Once I passed this stage in my process it made sense to add elements which were more suited towards my stakeholder, this naturally helped me create a unique idea. I also learned through my time at Swave Studios was that it was important to digest the feedback you receive but you should also use your own judgement towards the finalization of the concept. This internship gave me the freedom to use feedback, research, and resources to design ideas myself.

During the Pandemic I narrowed down on a final design through the exercise of creating my own timeline of research, ideations, and process. I had the opportunity to collaborate, converse, and receive feedback with my co-workers and employers. This process let me come to a final solution and scenario myself with the aid of others. I learned that it is important that I as the designer should be clear about the goal of the design and also create presentable information which shows to my audience that I know what scenario my design is supposed to solve and elevate.

I learned that a simple design is better than a complicated design, which may be a swiss army knife but may not offer functionalities which would best help achieve the final brief.

Truck Bed Organizer

Designing a truck bed organizer meant that I need to explore a variety of soft good cargo holders and bags which can help the user keep cargo and grab and go items in place. What's a common problem that pickup truck owners have? items are always moving all over the place!

Exploring and researching competitive products provided me useful information on how a truck bed can be organized in a productive and modular way.

Here I explore different tool pouches which help construction workers stay organized and ready for the job. Pickup trucks are commonly used for construction use, so developing a useful tool pouch which can be used in an organized system in the truck bed is essential.

Having medium sized bags for easy grab and go scenarios from the truck bed is important for a pickup truck owner.

Hey we all need to buy groceries!

Why not have a collapsible grocery bin or an all purpose grocery bin which you can use for miscellaneous items, tools, or any other cargo in your truck bed.

Coolers, tool boxes, suitcases and permanent storage can all be offered through a large rolling tote. It is common for larger items to be stored as permanent storage closer to the cabin of the truck. A large tote can offer these functions as well as providing a way to transport and carry items on the go.

Truck Bed Support Railing

Designing a Truck Bed Support Railing

Pickup truck ownership can be greatly improved by a modular and useful support railing which can offer the same functions as a cargo gate, tail gate bar, and bed organizer. This unique "U" shape offers a way to load long cargo parallel to the truck bed and also offer a way to store items in a well organized way. The railing offers users a solution to use their bed space to it's max potential while also having an easy install and disassemble process.
